Minimum, two weeks.
2 weeks would be a VERY minimum. Better go longer. Why put them back together? The calf is at the peak of growth potential - he needs the best pasture, feed available for fast gains. The dry cow on other hand is needing nothing but time until next calf. She needs the lowest value pasture you have and no feed.

I have seperated calves for as long as 2 months & still had them go back to nursing mom when I put them back together. Now I try to keep them seperated quite a bit longer.
