I caught a calf in a rodeo calf scramble this year. I get a certificate that must be used to purchase a beef heifer. She must be raised and shown in the Stockshow next year. Is there a rule of thumb on negotiating for a heifer? I have heard of kids buying the heifer outright and selling her at the end of the year or others that have worked a deal with the breeder where the breeder buys her back at the end of the season (with/without) a feed allowance. Anyone have experience with this? I'd appreciate any feedback, I'm new to this.
