I have something I never saw before. One of my calves has lost about 50% of it's hair. It was very healthy. It's mother is the only cow who will crawl under a fence and it's mother bloated on alfalfa a few times this spring. Not bad but noticeable. Now that cow has very little udder and the calf appears to be not getting enough milk. What is going on here and is there a link between the bloating and the hair loss. All the other calves are fine. Thank You farmguy

I agree with hillsdown. A spike in the temperature will cause hair loss. We had a cow come down with bad mastitis this calving season and she lost ALL her hair. Poor thing, I had to rub zinc cream on her face, legs and bag (Hereford) so she wouldn't get sunburnt. She was completely naked but her hair is coming back now. Your calf's hair should should start to grow back in a month or so.
