I have a 4-5 month old bull calf that has one side of his left rear hoof separating off. I don't know if this is due to an injury or what. He is healthy otherwise. I don't know what to do. Can anyone help?

Guessing the calf was born in March? Not sure where you are from, but I had one born in February one time and his back hoof got frost bit when he was born and one side of his hoof start peeling off like you are saying. Nothing you could do about it. He still got around fine and made a good steer.

Thanks for your reply. I'm in the Southern California area and frost bite isn't the case. The hoof is peeling off. Actually quite a bit of it. I will rope him and cut of the portion that is hanging off and put him in a corral alone to prevent further injury. I have been spraying Wound-Kote (the purple stuff) between the part coming off and the part attached to keep flies out. If you have any other suggestions I would appreciate it.
