calf and mother

Depends on what you mean by safe. Pretty much anytime after it hits the ground. It does need the first milk from its mother. This is loaded with a lot of antibotic's and stuff that are just plain good for it. Some do it as a day old calf. Some do it in a week. Depends on if you want to raise or sell a bottle calf. Some wean in 205 days or close to that. Some don't do it at all and let the cow do it naturally. I normally do it around the 205 days but I don't hold to that. It depends on the grass and other factors.

It really depends on what your purpose for the calf is, if it is dairy or you bottle feed it you could take her off after the first day, just as long as the calf gets it's mothers first milk, then I would feed her for approximalty a month, some do it for 2 or 3, whatever is more conveinent to you.
