I have bought some and had very mixed results. They usually sell cheap here, partially because many of them are out of season.
Now I am stocked heavy, have a lot of retained heifers, and I am tempted to sell a few pairs. What is the best way to market commercial pairs?

Early in the grass season - late April, early May That way they can fit into the majority of people's breeding programs. Just keep them on good quality hay and maybe a ration for the calf. A good looking calf is what sells a commercial pair. Seen some ridiculously old and rough cows sell for good money just because the calf was looked after well.

Here in East Texas, many of the pairs are being split because the packers will bid more than the farmers or ranchers. People here have not become accustomed to what cattle are worth.
