While looking over an upcoming registered cattle sale catalog I've developed a question....

Example: Heifer AI bred to Bull #1 on 5/10/04 and pasture exposed
to Bull #2 5/22/04-5/30/04

So, who's the daddy? Do you go by the gestation time for the calf registration, DNA, or how is that determined for accurate registration purposes?

Thanks in advance

preg check, most sales will have a sheet at the sale that has the info on it about who's the sire of the calf.

The only way to be sure is to bloodtype the calf. The AI bull should have his bloodtype on file with the breed association. Putting a cleanup bull on the heifer that soon after AIing is very improper. But it is done quite frequently, unfortunately.

If the cow was bred in May then he is right. They should have an update sheet at the sale that will tell you who she is safe in calf to.
