I would agree with one exception. How sure are you that there will be an America when you are retirement age and how sure are you that whoever you are investing with is honest. I am struggling with the same thing for my son right now. He asked me the other day wha I thought he should do and I don't have a clue. I am leaning toward defendable land/

It's hard to advise the younger generation. If the shtf I hope the kids make it to the farm.

Not taking advantage of a 401k match is a mistake, pure and simple.

I worked many years to buy my little piece of earth.

No body gave me nothing but God. He blessed me with a clear mind and a strong will to succeed.

You could make a ton off of a piece of land. You could not make anything. Look at it as the best savings account you can have. No guarantee that tomorrow will come. Be smart, be conservative, work hard, but enjoy a little of life as you go. Do the best you can. You came here with nothing and you're gonna leave here the same way. Only thing extra you're gonna take with you is the suit they plant you in.

If things go bad south, and the gov starts taking your land away, it's so far gone it's not gonna matter anyway.

I like a balance of all but I really like land. Bought a farm 13 years ago and Friday I will close on the timber and more than double what I paid for the place and am looking at buying another farm with a portion of these proceeds. So far I've done much better with land than I have with stocks and bonds.

I max my 401k make to much for a Roth.. owe 8 years on 200 acres .. bought it for 1100 an acre 8 years ago .. was offered 2000 an acre a couple months ago ... I had an appraisal done . It came back at 2300 an acre.. I know that's not money in hand but I feel like if nothing else my boys will have a little something to sell and use to better their lives.

True, but how far will those millions be able to travel? A real economical collapse the majority will be afoot pretty darn quick. Being the better part of one tank of gas away from a major city will help a lot. And even being off the beaten path in those areas will also help. Something like that happens the majority of those millions will sit in their city waiting for help to come until it is too late. So we will actually only be dealing with thousands. The more isolated you are the more that number will shrink.

I think they have shown that most people would die in the city before leaving. I will have to look that up though, but it rings true if you have ever spent time in the bad parts of towns. Most people have been rendered helpless and will wait endlessly for "help" to arrive.

Government doesn't disappear
They may not have the resources to protect you, but they are still in power and need the revenue to stay.
Taxes don't go away and inflation is several hundred percent.
If you can't pay your taxes your property will be sold. There will still be people with wealth and power.
There is a greater seperation between wealthy and poor during such times.
It plays right into the socialist/communist agenda they are striving for but I digress.

The idea of living completely isolated and insulated would be near impossible.
Every square inch of the U.S. is platted and taxed.
They want people off the land and in the city
They want complete and total control.
They aren't stupid. They know exactly what they are doing.
This is being played out exactly as planned.

They know exactly what you own after Rita they had satellite photos you could see the barb wire and every t post that was down.
Could even see the swirls the catfish made on the back pond.
The FSA knew every square inch I owned and had the map blocked off by every landowner in the region.

You'll never see nor find all of that in this world young man. As I said, some things we can change, some we can't. Learn which is which and concentrate on those you can change. It won't happen on a message board.
