Have a second calver that is loose as a goose and has been for months. Wouldn't say she's scouring, but she's damn loose and none too pleasant in the odor department either. (Well... is it ever?) Wouldn't think twice if she was out on grass, but this has been going on all winter on a diet of alfalfa/grass hay and a little grain. Talked to the Vet last fall and we considered the following: Johnes (but she's not loosing weight and her pregancy is progressing nicely), ecoli-ran a week long course of Excenel as prescribed, hardware problems-put a magnet in her. No change. Any thoughts?

About half of our cows have been squirting on orchard grass/alfalfa hay, straight grass they tighten up. I surmise it's just that the feed is hotter then their systems are used to or can handle.

Some cattle are more suseptible to deficiencies. In our area, if a cow is Selenium deficient, she squirts all the time. If we give her extra selenium (MuSe) it clears up. But, she may also just be getting higher protein than her system handles. Jeanne
