Bull was busy !

B is gone for a couple of days. 1,200 cows are starting to calf. One hired man in charge of tagging the new calves. He is complaining that B better get home soon. He is falling behind on the tagging. Probably 50 calves a day. But he came here to tag one. He is not very organized or quick about doing it.

That's awesome Coach. Our cows are supposed to start today and we are out of town. It'd be interesting to go back and check the moon signs when several are born in one day.

Put out hay early this morning and saw the 2 close together in labor but #3 was a surprise. ! Have around 20 on the ground so far .

Don't know if my nerves could handle 50 a day !
B has a old Jeep Cherokee. Drives up to the calf. Hops out leaving the door open. Grabs the calf and sticks its head in by the brake pedal. 2 vaccination guns, the ear tagger, and bander are all placed in easy to grab locations. It is all done before the calf can say boo. The shots and ear tag are real quick. The banding is the only thing to slow the operation. If it is going to be a problem the calf is turned loose as a bull to be cut at branding time.
Calf that is chilled goes in the back of the Jeep and gets a trip to the hot box at the house. If the calf gets a couple days on it and has gained too much speed he has a calf catch hook bungeed to the rack on top of the Jeep.

Our record was 43 in a day. That was enough for this tagger guy. Have had 500 in 20 days several times. We are way down on cows this year but supposed to be finished in 45 days.
