Got this guy penned last night, born last April. Out of a registered red angus cow, by my old crossbred 3/4 angus 1/4 Hereford bull. Would like some opinions on him. I sold out most of my herd last year but still have a couple crossbred cows left. Logistics wise AI is not feasible, and having only a couple cows buying a bull is hard to justify. Would like to hear the good and bad that anyone sees! Pictures aren't the best
Thanks everyone for reading this.

Your 2 cross bred cows...what is the cross?

He wouldn't necessarily be my first choice. He'd make one heck of a nice feeding steer. But if you're only trying to get a couple cows bred. He's got two nuts, four legs, and a pointer. He'll probably be okay.
Any chance you would be willing to pick him apart a little more?

He's not horrible. I like the pigment over his eyes.
He maybe sits back on his pasterns more than I like. I wouldn't want him to have to travel long distances to cover cows.
Like I said I wouldn't hesitate to have a pen of strs like him to feed out.

There's a guy not far from me who bought two pairs at a bred cow sale I was at several years ago. He was new to cattle and learning. I suggested that he have the vet cut the bull calf and vaccinate them before he left the sale. It was a Hereford cross but similar color markings to yours.
Anyway. He didn't and ended up saving that calf for his herd bull. He turned out okay. Not what I would have done, but he was happy with it.

Good topline, two pics make him look like he has some length, not any waste in the brisket, and smooth in the shoulder. Could be a little deeper and more muscular in the loin and in the rear. A little feminine in the head, but I've seen registered stock with less masculine heads. 7 out of ten, and plenty good for two cows, especially if they throw black calves.

Sounds like the smart thing to do if you have only a couple of cows and AI is not an option. He's a stout made bull for sure with a lot of red meat . I'd like him better if he was black . Does he have good feet ?

Not bad for a 10-month old bull calf. He will start pouring it on now with a little bit of feed. Smooth and no break behind the shoulder. Hard to fully evaluate without video to see how he travels. He will be fine to cover a few cows. If you like the calves run him another year and if you don't, sell him and the calves and try something else.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the input. He's got good feet, if he's matures to be like his sire he should be perfect for what I'm wanting, used his dad for 8 years and raised some of the best finishing steers I've ever had in that time. So all in all worst case is he ends up at the sale barn or cut and put on feed.

Black crosses not 100% sure mostly angus have always givin solid black calves that passed as angus when bred to my old bull.
are these cows bred now? If so, what is their calving date? That bull is none months old, so 6 mos away for being a breeder. He'd bring a LOT of money now at a sale. What if you sold him, and later one bought a good pb black bull? You might have to put a little money with it, but you could also buy him, keep him 2-3 months, then sell him when your cows are bred. Might lose a hundred bucks or so, ( or might make $100-$200, too) but it would be way cheaper than feeding a bull for 12 months just to breed 2 cows. Do you sell or do you eat the calves?

What is you goal? If you are just trying to get a calf, he might do that for you. You are asking about his conformation though like you do care what kind of calf you get?
