A Post on another site:

I recently purchased a horse for my buggy. She is a 5yr old morgan/app mare and is well broke to drive. I would like to use her in parades but she has one gear.....troting. Any idea's on how to teacher her to walk?

No one on has come-up with a good answer - - Any Help Here :???:

Sounds like a amish broke horse. They use them just like we do a car. To get to one place to the other as quick as they can. Thats how their broke, one speed. It might can be done but at her age,I would'nt think so.

Have you tried ground work, round pen or lounge to get her use to gears? Is she saddle broke, so you can get her use to walking when you have better control of her?

Alan, you beat me to it....I don't drive (yet) but wonder if ground work, ground driving with long lines, and emphasizing voice commands so she learns "WALK" might help?
