Buc-ee's

Help Support CattleToday:

Any gas station chicken is good 90% of the time. Except in the little town of Hot Coffee Mississippi. I don't think that little place has changed their cooking oil since Moby Dick was a minnow and Capt Ahab was a seaman apprentice. 🙁
If you want to get lost, don't do it in Hot Coffee.

Patel is really common surname for people from India and Pakistan. What 10-e-c dirtfarmer meant was all the little mom and pop stores were run by central Asians, kinda like the taxicabs in big cities and motels everywhere else.

Yes, sir. The "hotel-e people" They are always super nice when I've ever been around any.

We sent a few of our employees on a road trip to Virginia a couple weeks ago. They stopped at a Buc-ee's on the way east and were so impressed(?) that they planned their stops on the flip-flop. They said it's like a Costco for rednecks, which considering them, I believe is a compliment.

Where in Virginia? They must have stopped in Crossville or Pigeon Forge TN.

They went to Mountain Empire Airport, near Rural Retreat, VA. I'm not sure which Buc-ee's they stopped at but pretty sure they were in Tennessee.

Hey, I see they must have been traveling close to your place!

Probably the one at the Pigeon Forge exit... I stopped there on the quick trip I made to TN last year at @kenny thomas 's glowing accolades about Buc-ees and was suitably impressed. The one they are building north of me near Harrisonburg Va is growing fast... It is huge with what they have up already... right off the interstate...ought to be open next year I think.

From my experience/perspective, Buc-ee's got cleanest restrooms, Patels got the dirtiest.
Well, I'm impressed with Buc-ees restrooms, but I've used restrooms from the caribbean to Southeast Asia and India, from Mexico to Chicago; I've peed in the East, I've peed in the West, I've peed all over this world but the worst public restroom I ever went in was at a little gas station somewhere in west Louisiana along the Tx/La border in the early 60s. There were dead and dying mammals, birds and insects (hundreds of spiders, crickets and ants, along with BIG spider webs) in it and that doesn't even take into account the filth from humans in there. The women's facility must have been just as bad as my mother complained mightily about it when she got back in the car.

Heck, I spent a year in a place where you pooped in a cut off 55 gal drum, alongside other hhairy assed gentlmen, and not unusual to have some old woman come along, open a wooden flap and jerk the drum out mid poop and replace it with a fresh one every few days. Then, some unfortunate young low ranking Marine had the task of adding 5 gals of diesel or JP5 to the drum, setting it afire with a bit of c-4 and keeping the whole belching black smoke mess stirred with a long stick of pipe so most of it would burn up. The smell was unmistakable...and not one you ever forget.

I do like Buc-ees a great deal but as they expand I do have to wonder if we will see the same undesirable effects we saw when Walmart took over the retail/grocery world over a period of a few decades.
I have to wonder if what we see today is what old Sam Walton would have wanted...

I find it ironic, that truckers complain they aren't welcome at Buc-ees fuel islands, when for many years, they complained about the 4 wheel vehicles causing them problems at truck stops. Now they can eventually have all their truck stops back to themselves but they're still unhappy.

In the last 75 years I've been been to some honey pots myself.
I must have walked 5 miles in Hamamatsu trying to find a western toilet!
But here in East TN/SE KY, the Asian gas/convenience store will on the dirty side.
But everything is much better than it was back in the 50/60s when I was growing up.

BTW my 2 granddaughters are half Asian.
Now you have the rest of the story!

Very close.
The one in Crossville TN is probably the easiest to get to and would have been the first one they passed. Signs for 50 miles so its hard to miss them.
Only thing i have seen with signs further away is Wall Drug in the Dakotas
