Got some very ruff ground in central ky. Looking to maybe get some cows for it this spring. Would like some real hardy longhorn Brahma style that could live in those conditions. Where would be the best place to start my search for bout 20 cows. Maybe stockyard in south tn??

You can find all you want down around Okeechobee FL. Better have good fences. Some of those cattle in that part of the world see Polar Bears about as often as often as they see people! Not sure what kind of winters you have. Brahman and Brahman crosses don't tolerate cold too well.

There are few Brahman and Gyr breeders in KY and TN that handles the mild winters just fine.

It wouldn't take more than an 1/8th or 1/4 to see the benefits.

This type heifer would do just fine in brush. No one will steal her, and she can be caught with a bucket of cubes.
She will also eat out of your back pocket if mishandled.

what kind of rough ground are you talking trin? steep or just woodsey cutover timber brush? if its just steep id go to the stockyards and pick some small angus cows. if its brushey weeds id buy some corriente cows and breed them charolais

Talking about more brushy rocky ground.

My preference would be to use quarter to half Brahman x Hereford. Bought as thrifty a beef cow as there is. And you do well with just any breed of bull. Your gonna have to get your check book out for those kinda cows.
Longhorn or corriente x would do even better. Till you sold calves. Different breeds will eat different things.( In this universe lol) the Mexican type cattle will eat brush and catus and raise calves on it. ....idk of anything that eats rocks. And it's not from a lack of trying.

Most important be quick to cull anything that isn't doing well. Where grass is thin a cow has to able to travel. Anything limping around on soft feet will not do well.
