ok I have never planted brown top millet but usually do pearl millet. Does brown top grow back after grazing like pearl millet does? I cant find any pearl millet locally except one place and its 100 per 50lb bag and my other farm store has it for 45bucks for brown top. Does anyone regularly plant brown top?

Brown top rushes to maturity in spite of management. You can let it reseed to sort of have a second crop but I have never seen it respond well to efforts to curtail maturity. Keep it short and it will make seed heads on short stems.

If you have good soil fertility look at a mix of bin run corn, sudan or hybrid haygrazer and cowpeas. you can add sun hemp. It allows multiple grazing if you control the amount removed per rotation.

Yea I definitely want it to grow back like pearl does I guess I will just bite the bullet on the pearl millet. Thanks for your input

I'm in dinwiddie and it's sporadic it's crazy. This is a weird year
Funny you said sporadic. I was cutting hay today on part of the farm and it was bone dry. Saw a few little storms around but nothing crazy. When I started heading home through the farm I noticed puddles of water everywhere. Pulled up FarmLogs and parts of the eastern side of our farm received 6/10" of rain.

Looking good I'll cut some and graze some.. this is at my house it grew some after a week and 3 inches of rain
