I'm just starting into cattle. my grandpa gave me two hereford cows and I bought a black bull

my hereford cow is 74J and my bull is 77L. When they make a calf lets say a hefier can I breed that hefier the following year to 77L.

Also the balck baldie is hereford cow and a balck angus bull cross right?

You can, but it will excentuate the good and bad trits of the bull. Traditionally a black baldy is a Hereford Angus cross. But now with so many different breeds that have developed black animals you could get a baldy from breeding Simmenthal to Simmenthal or any of the black animals to a Hereford or a Simmenthal. There is even a registry for black Herefords.

On breeding, be careful about any "inbreeding" activities...might get some traits you don't want. Cross-breeding and out-crossing is much safer. Do your research and listen to the experts, including those on this board. Best of bovining!

Probably the identification on the ear tags for each particular cow.
