Sorry for so many questions all at once but I value the expirience of the people on this board.
We finally gave in and took the bull to the vet for a Breeding Soundness Exam and he failed to produce enough semen to test (they tried it twice). Some background, this yrs calf crop is at 5 now from 8 cows/heifers. The first four were calved one month apart and now we are waiting on the fifth that should calve this month. As for this yrs breeding, he has been with them since June but everytime we get ready to pull him off, one starts cycling again so we put him back.
Is it worth trying to do anyting with this bull, he is a reg Angus, son of Leachman Explorer and a beutiful bull with a great temperment.
Since we are now getting so late we are faced with either changing breeding seasons or no calves next yr. How bad would a late summer calving season be for someone in Tennessee?
Finally, if replaceing the bull would you get a young bull and wait till next yr to breed, wait till next yr to breed but buy an older proven bull then, or go ahead and get a proven bull now?
thanks
