We feed bread ONLY as a supplement to our normal rations. I cannot verify the actual protien value, however, the cattle love it and will eat the bread/rolls before their 'regular' rations. Several years ago I attended a seminar sponsored by Penn State University. At this seminar producers were encouraged to utilize excess commodities such as factories or processing plants where overruns or imperfections were accessable, i.e. candy, potato chips, pretzels, bread, noodles, etc. We are fortunate that we have two different bread sources offered either free or at a nominal fee on a weekly basis. The only inconvenience in this whole matter is that we must pick up the bread when it is available. We have caught many a head of cattle by using the bread treats!

We have been feeding bread to cows for many years. You can over feed bread and they will get sick or die! The following link has some information.
