Braunvieh??

Help Support CattleToday:

I know someone who purchased some braunvieh from out west (Oklahoma?) and brought them to Virginia. I wasn't a fan - they were so ugly that I wouldn't have wanted to eat them, and I did not trust his bull. But they looked much different from the photos posted at original-braunvieh.com, which seemed to be taller and better proportioned.

Passed the local (former) Beefmaster breeder's place on the way in to work. Saw he had two new yearling Braunvieh bulls in the lot with the black bulls he's been running for the last 5-7 years. Guess they decided the calves and resulting cows from their previous Braunvieh cross-breeding trial were good enough to go back to the well again.

Looking for input on Braunvieh cattle, considering some cows to run with Hereford bulls or a Braunvieh bull to put on blk & bwf cows. I currently run Herefords bulls on my angus cows & Charlais and Simme bulls on the bwf cows. What are some thoughts on the Herf X Braun? Not sure if I would get a bwf calf or a smokie wf or would they be mostly rwf? What are your experiances with the braun cow? TIA

There was a good show on these cattle last year on RFD Cattle men. Funny you posted because I was trying to research it some and could not remember the name of the cattle. They are all marked with that ring around there nose I hear.

Thanks for that link! I had not seen the Star 5 show in Lockhart. As a matter of fact had not seen a Santa Gert x Hereford !

The Braunvieh is a very good breed. I had one braunvieh and did my research on her when I got her.
They are known for milking well and having perfect udders. They raise big calves. They are overall great mothers. The only thing is you have to breed them to the right bull if you cross them. I have seen some angus braunvieh cross and they were nice and usually black , but a few may get the light muzzles like fullblood braunvieh.
