Help, have a steer, 1 1/2 year old, to go to fair. Have what I think is a wart about 2 to 3 inches below his eye. The size is a little smaller than a dime, raised, crusty, and has hair over it. What is the best thing to do? Cut it off and treat with scarlet oil? That is what is generally done around here, is there another way as well?

>Your idea of cutting it off is the best idea. There may be other ways, but removing it and helping the skin to heal is by far the fastest. Especially since you have a show to go to. Cutting it with a sharp scalpel at skin level will allow it to heal quickly with the calf's immune response kicking in as well. Make sure not to cut lower than skin level as a scar may develop and take longer to heal.
