bought 3 at the bull sale a couple weeks ago, putting on my flameproof undies. what do you think?

I'm sittin' here thinking about the last reception I got when I offered an opinion.
So I'll only say two things. The polled Hereford needs a good picture of it from the side... and it looks like the Charolais is only a year old and the Herefords are two years old in June.

Grau Charolais has been around for a long time. I don't know anything about them, but I've heard they have good cattle. I remember seeing their advertisements in the Charolais Journals over 30 years ago.

don't worry about that, I can handle it - I mean what can I do anyway? they are bought. LOL

not top of the sale bulls (not the last either) but we aren't top of the line cows either. we have cows that work for us in our country under our conditions.

I'll get a better picture of the muley later.

they have some nice bulls for sure. they often have the "Grand Champion" at this sale for what it is worth, though not this year. he was kind of an unplanned purchase. LOL there were two of them that I really liked. got outbid on the other one.

The polled Hereford, from what I can see, could use a little more chest floor width.
yeah I like the horned one a lot better, but supposedly this guy wasn't fed and was raised on pasture. from his condition, it was a heck of a lot better pasture than we have. I'll try to get a better picture of him. had to separate him from the others after they got here. it was a warm day and he and the horned Hereford were getting pretty hot shoving each other around. both are from a little higher elevation and cooler country.

I've found it's very difficult to get a representative photo of most of my animals -- so I won't critique based on a couple photos. I do watch a fair number of online bull sales and I find it interesting how different animals can look from sale to sale. There are lot of 18 month bulls being sold I think mostly because they tend to look so much better in video than a yearling (size/muscle/finish).
How many cows will these bulls be covering and across how many acres?

yeah, like all yearling heifers look good (or teenage girls) - well, they will go out when we get a little feed going. we run a single herd of 150 up to 200 on semi-desert grassland, ranch is about 22 sections, largest pastures around 6 sections smallest is 200 acres. have a pretty good battery of bulls (5 or 6 and a couple other 2 year olds) on them but a few are definitely aging out.

The charolais definitely looks young. Almost a yr old now if I read that right.
Have they all passed a BSE already?

I bet the herefords go right to work! I like them.

Someone posted this in Big Sexy's thread a while back.
Definition of Hereford.

I'll post pics of my new bull I just got today. I'll pick him up Saturday. May have to post him in the "daily chuckle" thread tho!

got one side shot this morning on my way out of here. too lazy to get out of car

Yeah, that's what I thought. He's a lot better than the horned bull and close enough to the Char that some people might like him better. Maybe the horned bull needs some groceries or that last shot just needs to be better, but as they are today this one is more fleshy and more masculine.
