bottle calves

Help Support CattleToday:

no idea where you're located but round here (upstate NY) there's several buying stations for slaughter that sell bob calves to the Amish and others to feed on, local salebarn also has a regular bob calf sale every wednesday. If there's any larger dairies near you then you may be able to deal direct with them, would certainly give the calves a better start and less exposure to outside pathogens. Price round here atm is $50 - $100 ea for holstein bull calves.

I strongly agree with Robert on this one... The absolute best place to purchase Holstein bottle calves is direct from a dairy. You will have the assurance that the calf has the best start to a healthy life. In my opinion, you are rolling the dice when you purchase bottle calves at the sale barn.

And by the way... :welcome: to the boards!

Besides all the other good advice, better have a tube feeder and know how to use. Also a bottle of potent antibiotics. Good luck

PS. buy a bred beef cow, its easier and a lot more rewarding
