This is my very first bottle calf, Miss June. She was a twin, mama was not really interested in this heifer. I work at a feed store and when a customer asks if I'd like a free bottle calf, it's difficult to say no... lol! Black and White Baldie. She's a little over 2 weeks old. Her twin was a heifer too so I don't have to worry about Freemartin. 3rd photo is her meeting mama cow.

Vent plugged up this morning. She just kept right on a going and collapsed the bottle!
Hang on to the cap &/or nipple! When they collapse the bottle, it's generally only a matter of time before it pops off and they get a face full of milk. Love me a hungry, aggressive baby!

Didnt take me long to buy a couple with screw on teats!
I cant remember which one it was, but the calf was just as surprised as I was when that dang thing dumped 2 qts all over the place....
I did feel pretty stupid after letting it happen the 2nd time tho.

They do grow on you-I had a red with white feet born 2 days ago a bull I'm going to keep for awhile just because .....But it keeps me from going insane...
Found this lil gal a while back. Turns out my biggest cow had twin heifers and she was left behind. She was very lucky to be found even. I was out on the 4wheeler and just stopped and shut it off. Let out a big moooooo like I sometimes do, and she popped up outta the tall grass. I thought who the heck are you?Mama wanted to name her Lucky.
We settled on naming her Seven
As you can she, she was pretty thin, but had obviously nursed at least once. Colostrum issue worried me, but we pressed on....
The regular milk really made the scours. She had issues getting in and out of her temporary accommodations. Lol
Moving along well tho.
Newest picture. Shes on feed now. About 5 or 6 pounds a day. Seems to be doing well.
I know it takes lots of time. Not so bad if you get things organized and establish a routine tho.
I plan on keeping this heifer just because I can. They really grow on you. The last 2 I've raised have all been sent off down the road for one reason or another.
Questions, comments, and especially other bottle calf stories are more than welcome. Pictures please!

Not much of an update bit I've cut Annie back to just an evening bottle and shes eating feed with George. George is coming along pretty nicely. Hes a feed vacuum for sure!

These 2 ain't mine. But I contributed by finding them for the neighbor boys again.
Weren't on Craig's but for about 30 minutes. Bwhahahahahaha!
I just got back from checking them out. They sure look to be dandies! Kinda wish I'd have bought em. They were listed for 150 each

I know the feeling I had a guy offer me a calf that he said he thought it was a Holstien, for free but I had to drive an hour and a half to get it, so I turned him down, I know the person who got it and it is at least half beef, nice big black white face calf, weighed 100 pounds. Oh well I didn't really need another bottle calf right now lol

My first bottle fed calf 2/2018. She was barn kept for 1 week then ran with my herd & came when she heard the buggy & I called her for the bottle. Bottle fed x4 months. She was bred to a registered red angus in fall 2019 & this is her & her bull calf fall 2020.

Last pic is a picture of her calf yesterday. He's 7 months old now. For a commercial herd, what do y'all think he looks like for breeding?
