I use a Wylie sprayer with 2 Boominator heads and I am putting about 20 gallons per acre. I’m a cow man, not a crop man, so I am mostly spraying for weeds and worms. Occasionally I’ll spray some liquid fertilizer. Im curious if I’m on target for the volume I should be putting on the ground.

Generally the more water the better if you are applying the correct amount of chemical per acre for whatever you are trying to kill.
Saying that, I put out 15 gallons per acre for most everything weed related. One exception was when I was trying to knock back some spiny aster.
https://rangeplants.tamu.edu/plant/spiny-aster-wolfweed-mexican-devil-weed/ I wasn't getting a good response from my spraying. The very knowledgeable lady at the co-op suggested more volume of water because the plant has such small leaves. To accomplish this without readjusting everything, I just slowed down the speed of the tractor. I left the amount of chemical the same. She was spot on as the plant was knocked back and has not returned in anywhere close to the invasion that I had.

I once heard the state weed specialist with Texas AgriLife Extension say to try to get 20 gallons per acre volume. He told producers trying to control carolina horsenettle if they weren't putting 20 gal/acre just leave the spray rig in the barn.

Boom Sprayer calibration

1mph= 1.4667fps

1.4667 x mph = total fps (tfps)

Distance to travel (X) / tfps = seconds it takes to travel X

(X) distance below

Boom less sprayer calibration

Method 1

5940* GPM / MPH*W(inches)

Method 2

Travel distance = 5460/spray width in feet.

Collect spray for same time it takes to travel the required distance. Number of pints collected equals GPA
