Had the the last calf of the season overnight. All was well when I checked the girls this morning. Had some coffee and my oatmeal and headed off to watch our granddaughter's softball game. Pulled into the drive and saw black vultures circling low. I ran out like a loon yelling and clapping. Calf was okay. A couple of birds circled back low, and as I'm sure many of you would have done, I sternly warned them that I would be applying for a depredation permit. They got the message, because both of them quickly landed and ceased their depredation activities right away.

I hate those nasty birds!

We lost a cow last week to them. She had trouble calving and they got to her before we did.... ate her alive.. Had around 100 on her. Had a calf overnight and saw around 20 on the ground around the cow. It rained all night and they were out early considering... but i'm guessing they walked to her instead of flying. Husband went out and hopefully got a few. They seem overly aggressive this year.
