hi, what are the current price per lb on black cattle in Texas//what does the average cow, bull, yearling or calf bring? thanks

It varies from sale barn to sale barn and obviously zones within Texas. Blacks were going really cheap for a while there in Dublin, Cleburne and Meridian. You could pick up angus cheaper than anything else around these parts. They had come back up but I haven't been in a few weeks. You can google Meridian Livestock Commission and go to their weekly market report but the report does not segrate based on breed or color.

Dublin is a huge sale and a really good indicator. I wish they would go on line.

If there isn't an auction in Brady you might want to call the Jordan auction folks and/or review their web site for prices at the San Saba and Mason auctions, both of which are fairly close to Brady. They run a lot of cattle through those auctions, both "normal" and "special" auctions.

Interesting link. The regular sales don't seem to break down by color, but their Replacement Female sale was broken down by breed or type.

Don’t know about Texas but I would say in Kansas black is where it’s at, (or soon will be) as we just shipped 80 of a 200 head order of first time heifers with calves to Kansas and they are all black.
