8 month old calf angus x has large swelling on rear of lower jaw whats up ?

My guess would be it got kicked. Run it through the chute and give it a feel, see if anything is broken.

Seems too young for a tooth abscess unless it's jaw was injured.
Take it's temp as long as you have it caught, antibiotics if there is a significant infection.

were are you? snake bite? I haven't seen any yet, but the lizards have been out almost all winter.

maybe kicked by another animal?

can you post a picture, have you felt it? hard, soft, hot - temp of calf, other symptoms???

It's almost certainly just an abcess. Assuming it is, Lance at bottom, in a check shape so will stay open to drain and give an antibiotic.
