What first came to mind was a tanager of some sort. Maybe a western tanager buty I don;t know how far north or east they reproduce
 
Thank you! They were just passing thru when I was able to take some shots of them. These ones are the best three out of over 20 other not-so-great photos. I have the first one on my desktop already.

dun, you hit it right on the nose. They are in fact Western Tanagers. They sure like to be quite the competitors with the woodpeckers in the mountain ash they were feeding in. :)
