Hi,
I have recently purchased some Brangus cows with their calves and was wondering what weight and age would be best to have one of the calves slaughtered for my own beef.

Thanks

Really depends what you want. We slaughtered our first grain-fed purebred brangus at about 1150 lb., it had good flavor, marbling, etc. If you want some marbling, I would suggest some grain feeding to get them to weight. We feed our Brangus cross calves for 5-6 months. Our calves are usually around 15 months at slaughter and most are choice quality. Everyone has an opinion, this is just what we do and have been happy with the results, as have our customers.
