Saw an ad for Sungrazer 777 Forage Bermuda. Anyone know anything about it?

Don't know anything about this particular bermuda, but talked to an extension forage specialist a couple of years ago about seeded bermuda. Some of the seeded bermudas such as Texas Tough & others are blends of "improved" varieties + common bermuda. He said the "improved" component will establish quicker than the common component of the blend, however he felt over time the common will dominate. I saw this happen years ago at my childhood home. Yard was sprigged to african bermuda. Somehow a small patch of common bermuda got started at the edge of the yard. Over the years the common kept encroaching more & more into the hybrid bermuda.

Don't know if Tifton 85 is cold tolerant enough for your area. Have seen research from Overton Tx where Tif 85 outyielded & produced more gain than other bermudas. Tif 85 does have to be sprigged, probably making it more costly to establish.

Check with your local NRCS or extension agent and see if tif 85 is adapted to your area.

Good luck & best wishes

Yes, I know of a small ranch that swears by that stuff. It grows quickly, doesn't require a lot of moisture, and spreads rapidly. They had part of their pasture done three years ago (this spring) and liked it so well they put another pasture in last year. It will take a couple of years to see how hardy it actually is!

The seeded varieties have the advantage in not having to be sprigged. They are not as drought tolerant as Coastal and Coastal is not as drought tolerant as Tifton 85.

I have some common bermuda that I plan to kill this fall and plant Tifton 85 in 2007. My neighbor has a grazing dairy and he has killed some good coastal stands to plant T-85. He said that milk production increased a lb or two per cow per day when he changed paddocks and went from a Coastal paddock to Tifton 85. Better yield, more drought tolerance and in my neighbors case, more digestibility.
