Beefmaster heifer breeding

At what age should a Beefmaster heifer be bred and what type of bull should she be bred to? Should she be bred to a bull that throws smaller calves like an Angus or will she have no problem calving from a beefmaster bull?

She should be bred at approx. 15 months old, to calve as a 2-year old. Since not all Angus are easy calvers, I'd look for an Angus bull with a low birth weight EPD to breed her to the first time. Good luck...

We have registered beefmasters and have no trouble breeding back to beefmater bulls. Check your EPD on the bulls. Beefmasters usually throw smaller calves that grow quickly. Also, we breed @ 15 mo. Watch the feed while the mommas are pregnant especially the last 6 wks. We normally have our heifers/cows on 9-12% protein while trying to breed and calve. Good Luck!
