Nuflor and Baytril provide about the antimicrobial coverage. We generally try to use Nuflor however. Some types of bacteria isolated from humans have begun to show restistance to the quinolone analogues (Baytril is one). This has not shown itself to be the case in animal isolates yet, but my hunch is it can't be far behind. As with any antibiotic, judicious use is key. Hope this helps.

Another point is that enrofloxacin (baytril) can permanently damage the cartilage in the joints of fast growing animals. It isn't used in dogs or cats that are between 2 and 10 months of age for this reason. Since this drug isn't licenced for use in cattle in Canada, I can't answer if it damages cattle as well, but I know that it's cousin, ciprofloxacin isn't used in children because of joint damage, so I'd be really suspicious...
