We have them down here along the coast and up the rivers also.

They get up in people's ponds and stuff if you are too close to the river.

I've had them in the grain fields along the river when we were hunting.

I've worked for the federal government for 7 years and gotten into plenty of tomfoolery. Laws mostly exist to make money for fat cats. This is the goshdarn United States of America, more stuff should be legal than illegal.

In my opinion, no. They kinda taste like catfish but it's like having chewing gum coated in corn meal and deep fried. I'll take the catfish everyday over gator!
