banding

Help Support CattleToday:

We used the tri bander last year on the baby calves. I missed a couple so I borrowed a callicrate from a neighbor. I needed two others to help me, it is a large piece of equipment to hold onto and try to hold the bull and get it all in the chute. I ordered the "California Bander" and plan to do the calves at weaning or sometime in there. You can look at the bander at http://www.inosol.com It was fairly inexpensive, but I can't tell you how well it works. Maybe somone else on here has used one? It claims you can use it on any size animal.

The ability to count to 2 prevents any problems with missing a testicle. We've banded for years and a normal piece of equipment in my pocket is a small cutter to remove the band if one slips when I apply the band.

Same here. We band at 1 day old (I can't catch them too well after that). Don't implant either (many of my freezer beef customers don't want implanted beef).
