Baling pastures?

Help Support CattleToday:

Baled mine for years.
Can never have too much hay.
I can satisfy a cows nutritional needs on three pounds a day, now I need 27 pounds to fill her up.
It surprises me how little producers around where I am know about hay. Quite often the hay purchased around where I am located has more nutrients and fertilizer value than the cost of the hay itself. In other words, you can buy the hay and get the nutritional value out of it for the cows and use the 'end' product (pardon the pun) for fertilizer for less than the cost of just buying the fertilizer equivalent of what the hay itself contains.

I'm glad you have done the calculations to see that the cow's nutritional needs are being met, and then some, by the hay you are feeding it. I hope you never see a cow starve to death that is being fed all the hay they can consume. Watching cows starve to death with full stomachs isn't pretty. The producer was clueless and didn't understand how they could starve with full stomachs.
