I'm thinking about planting some winter peas to bale for hay. I know they would make good hay, but do they make a decent amount of tonnage? Also, what kind of tonnage could I expect from planting blackeyed peas ? Have ya'll had better luck with them in rows or drilled? No one has ever planted any of this for forage around me, so this will be a test run. By the way, I am in central Texas on a high pH heavy blackland soil. Thanks for any input.

I tried the iron and clay or cowpeas(black-eyed peas) a couple of years ago with no success. I have black clay as well with a PH around 8.0 and very saline. I planted lablab this year and it has come up good as an alternative ws legume. I haven't tried the austrian peas but they are also sensitive to saline conditions...I am told.
