The newborn area, there's about a couple acres around this shelter. They stay here til they are 5 days old or so... On a normal year, this year they'll have to wait for the snow to melt first.

Great pics Randi
You should be able to sell the picture of the 66 calf to a magazine.

You cant beat calving on bedded, frozen ground out of the wind. That's what we shoot for but we're getting pretty muddy now and putting down alot of cornstalk bales. Nice setup and cute pictures, especially the twins pulling on momma at the same time.

Thanks, 3way!

Steve, The cows don't calve there, that is where we put them after they have their calves.

Here's our calving pen/paddock, you can see the barn and corrals up the hill, the straw pack is behind me in this photo

And heres the view from the top of the hill looking down, although this photo was taken in Dec.

Nice setup indeed... You're totally right about the playing calves being the best part of this time of year... I figure in a week ours will really start getting giddy.. there's already a couple that have a bit more spunk than other.. one is a little steer calf who likes to butt my knee and rub on my leg, and gets himself pretty worked up about it too.. ours just always seem to like to play at nightfall, and that makes it a bit harder to get crisp pictures.
