Been mostly into show horses and I'm amazed by the cattle auctions on rfd-tv but cannot understand the prices. Would someone explain the bid prices that appear. I plan to attend our local auction this coming week. Thanks and I enjoy reading the postings.

Commercial cattle are sold by the pound. The auctioneer may be calling for a bid of .85 or $85 a hundred pounds. The cent figure may be broken down into quarter of a cent per pound. For example: .8525 or .8550 or .8575 which means 85.25 cents per pound.

Registered cattle and commercial cattle breeding stock can be sold by the head in full dollar incraments. Etc. $350 bid asking $400 and so on.
