Around the ranch

Help Support CattleToday:

Goog looking cattle, but what was that stuff falling out of the sky and covering the ground? We're right there with Rustler but I'm glad someone is getting rain.

You sure do have some nice pasture.

Is it the norm over there for cattle to have such long horns? are the risks of gettin injured by long, sharp lookin' horns like the ones one your beasts higher then gettin jabbed by shorter, blunter horns?

You cattle look extremely quiet. Thanks for posting your pictures!

It is not the norm over here; however, big horns is a characterisitic of the Texas Longhorn breed. We are raising registered stock, and one characteristic of that breed is long horns. We do not focus totally on horn in our breeding program; however, it does play a big part.

Yes, the horns can be dangerous if you do not stay alert when working and handling the cattle; however, for the most part, handling Longhorns is no different than handling other breeds.

Our pasture is in better shape this year than it has been in a while. We have been getting a lot of rain through the spring and summer of '07.
