Actually I was hoping to get some comments from a Texan here and maybe be enlightened on what they might be good for.
thanks Burno

They've got some heavy duty claws! Have never seen one in real life. What is it they do that is harmful, dig holes? Serious question, as I don't know anything about them.

Armadillos are built to dig. They have short, strong legs that are well suited to rapid digging, either for food or for shelter. Like their cousins, the sloth and anteater, armadillos have strong claws. They use them to help in digging, or to tear apart rotting wood to find food. Armadillos eat a wide variety of different foods, ranging from insects to plants. Most armadillos eat small invertebrates like ants, beetles, and grubs.

Up until about 10 years there were none in north Al. Now they are everwhere. One night my wife and mother-in-law were in the yard talking. They were standing about 15 feet apart and one walked between them. It didn't even pay any attention to them. The new joke around here is. "why did the armadillo cross the road? - To show the possum it could be done. I drive about 60 miles round trip to work each day. I norally see about one live one ever other night. Also see about 4 dead ones a week.

we never had aramadillos in oklahoma till about 10 years ago when they started migrating north from.... somewhere?
they are clear up in kansas now.
i could live just as happily without them. the question is which is more a nuisance a possum a skunk an aramadillo or a gopher?

Bif, we don't have Armadillos here yet. Ground Hogs, don't pose too bad a problem either. Seems the Coyotes keep them thinned out. (ground hogs are are delicious in a crock pot), and Skunks are mostly seen flattened on the roads. Sometimes catch one in the Barn, but not very often.
