are they bites or hives??

lookin for help from anyone about this...last night i found about 20 round, clustered lumps on my horse around the bottom of his ribs by his leg. they look like giant mosquito bites. after watchin him about 30 minutes for change, they sort of "greww" together, like hives do. my"horse knowing neighbor said they were fly bites. i,m questionin this because they grew together so fast...someone please give me info...thanks...

Had this happen, but it was an allergic reaction to a new spray that had iodine in it.. is it sore to the touch? itchy? could have gotten into a wasp nest, mine got stung on the neck and had lots of individual sting sites that sort of merged all together.
