Any ideas to get a down cow up

Any update @M.Magis ? Mine died Sunday, I had high hopes Saturday but she fell off Sunday and died that afternoon, 1500 lb cow that was due to calve any day, makes me sick.
Nothing good, I ended it last Friday. Probably waited too long to be honest. Even though we were moving her daily, she still ended up laying on the exact same parts and the sores became obvious. Sucks losing one for any reason, but seems especially bad to lose one to something as simple and silly as laying in a bad spot.

In my experience of getting a milk fever down cow up after 3 days, it is critical to turn them over (from one hip to the other), every 6 hours around the clock or their tissues and muscles will die from the pressure. This is why nurses turn bedridden people every few hours to prevent bed sores. We would set the alarm during at night and go out in the field to turn the cow using the truck with a rope on her legs. She would ooch herself around and change locations, once laying prone head downhill. So we knew she would bloat and repositioned her with the tractor using ropes. We kept her propped up with hay bales. Of course she was not in a barn stuck between between things like your cow. I gave her tubes of CMPK 12 hours apart and prayed Lord thy will be done but please can she live a few more years. Looked out a while later and saw this.

This was almost 10 years ago. A month ago she gave me another heifer calf.
Well.... I just took the calf.

Her 1st pure breed Jersey calf. This was a high risk pregnancy. Once they have milk fever they will likely get it again and also her age of 14. So she got four doses of calcium beginning at the birth and every 12 hours. At her age if she went down she would never get up again no matter what.

Probably no difference, but it wasn't milk fever. She just laid down and got stuck in a bad position. We were able to get her out between the tractor and barn, but it didn't seem to matter. Every once in a while she would shift her weight, but it wasn't enough. When I picked her up to bury her, a hoof fell off. I think her legs were "dead" all week.

Sorry you lost the cow... too bad you didn't go on and do a c-section... even while she was down, being that close to calving...

Very sorry to hear this. Hard to know when they will go. Wish it had been obvious and you could have saved the calf but sometimes it just isn't meant to be.

It's a difficult choice but you did what needed to be done when you felt the hope was gone. It definitely stinks loosing them. There was probably something going on you weren't aware of. We can't save them all and you gave it a good effort. Sorry for your loss.

She was breathing hard and grunting last Sunday morning so I was kinda thinking she was in labor, I checked her a few times and the calf was not in the birth canal yet so I guess it was just her giving up. I sent a video to my nephew the vet tech and another good cattleman and they both seemed to think she was in labor too. They even seemed to think if she calved that she might go ahead and get up. Yeah, I should've cut the calf out and at least salvaged something, my daughter in law volunteered to bottle feed it for me if I did. The cow had paid for herself but it's hard not to look at the potential value lost, especially the salvage value of a cow that big. Just another reason I like 1000-1200 lb cows, her size is what caused her to get hung up in the head gate to start with. I should've known better than trying to get her through there, my gut told me she wouldn't fit. Education in livestock is always expensive. I learned a lot through this.
