This could be a big problem for the future. It may make the burning of Watts small stuff. I am not posting this to take sides only to post as what is going on in one place and could spread. I live in a small town of a little over 300 pop so I am pretty well uniformed on some things as I am insulated from it. Middle class has shrunk and the lower class and upper class has expanded. When people talk of a revolution it will be between the poor and the rich and not against the government. Rent and living expenses eat up all of peoples income unless you might be making 30 bucks an hour or so. Hard to be independent on 15 bucks an hour.

" A few activists clutched bright red hammer-and-sickle flags. And behind the attendees stood silent men and women in black ski masks — "comrades," said emcee Facundo Rompe, "who are here to protect us."

Commies and socialists..it figures.

Could look at it as people who do not see much of a future. Living on next to no money, in a depressed area is tough. two ways out, hard work and that is not so easy when it seams like you work hard just to keep alive, if there is work. Two fight. many many times in history when the gap between the poor and the elite gets too big the poor revolt.

Social movement up from the bottom to middle class has stalled out. Now in too many countries the numbers of management jobs, small businesses etc is declining. That and the tax's etc on the middle class means it is shrinking, and making a lot of people very unhappy. The steps gained from hard work are disappearing. This is a huge problem.

Yet they wonder why these places will remain poor and downtrodden. I'm afraid that the younger generation is going to become more and more indoctrinated to covet material goods that they can't afford, and it will cause major discord, and potentially violent behavior, between the classes. I'm seeing it here. The cost of living is sky rocketing, yet the jobs aren't here to support it. It's an interesting experiment, thankfully we live in a red state and not a welfare state like California where kids are taught to believe they are owed.

Yes Sir. Kentucky is becoming the poster child for a vanishing middle class.

Poster child for lots of other things too I'm afraid.

Exactly. This has nothing to do with not making enough to live on... its not making enough to support the lifestyle they want.

Even here in rural america I had a guy complaining about how bad a company had treated him and not given him raises. Ten minutes before that he was telling me how he bought a $500 pair of binoculars. He also has a 2016 diesel truck, deer lease locally, deer lease in west Texas, etc.

Who even needs $500 binoculars? Can they be that good? Wouldn't $50 binoculars be sufficient? This is what kills me about people. I have women I work with who complain about not being able to afford this and that and then grab their $300 Gucci purse to go home. It's insane.

Had a friend buy his wife a new car last year and put the down payment on his credit card. Realized he still had quite a bit of available credit on the card so went back two days latter and bought himself a new truck and used the credit card to make a down payment. 72 payments times 2 and both of those suckers will be all his.

I've seen folks make rediculous car and truck payments..one women told me her weekly paychecks all went to vehicle payments....

$500. is just a decent pair of binoculars. Generally in optics the better they are the more they cost.

I get that, but unless you're a sniper or professional game tracker, who needs premium grade stuff when they can't afford it?

No one, if you can't afford it you don't need it. I enjoy living poor.
