So, yesterday Scott said that Zeke wanted to go over to the Kudzu place and see if he could look at the 2 calves were are giving him to raise. Scott's wife wanted to go riding, so Scott saddled up 3, and they road the field roads over to the Kudzu -pasture to see if those might be out somewhere that Zeke could see them. Well, when they out there, Scott saw a JERESY cow inside the corral, eating salt and minerals! He wondered where the hell SHE came from! He told Zeke ad his wife to ride up and push her to the back section so he could keep her up til he could find out where she came from, who she belonged to etc. He told them that they would ride the 220 acre perimeter fence and try to find where the fence was down. Well, she wouldn't push....just tried to lick the horses, so Zeke got off, put his lead rope around her neck, and led her to the back part of the corral!! Scott called a few neighbors he thought might have a Jersey buy it wasn't any of theirs. He was going to post a notice at the local general feed store today. And he left the cow in our corral, in case she was in heat. Didn't want those 2 bulls we have in there to get hold of her. They spent a couple of hours ridimg the fence, and never found a place cow could get in or out. When they got back to the gate, he said " Damn, I wonder how the hell she got in?" No one could have let her in, because the qate stays locked. Well, then..after half a day riding the fence, Zeke sp0eaks p and says "{ Oh, I let her in yesterday! I found her in the road by the gate, and she looked sad and lonely" so I let her in with the cows!"
We have a creek that runs the south border of our property, and when it gets to the road it runs down 1 side for a while, then under the road and by Scotts row crop land where we have the dove field. Ir runs through our hardwoods bottom, which is in a small valley... or as much of a valley as you get down in south Ga. A few years back, we decided we would damn it up and make a wet land area for ducks. We had started doing some dozer work which muddied the creek up along the road, and here came the EPA, raising hell, telling us to cease and desist, that we were committing felonies, etc. Said we had to get approval from them, apply and PAY for permits, get their engineers to look over the site and design what THEY wanted, us to do, etc. So, we just said " Forget it". Well, last year the beavers came in and built it for us! Made their damn almost in the exact same spot we were gonna use and it has been great. We shot ducks several times this season. We have the pond out by the corral that has bream, bass and channel cats in it, and it is way overstocked because it doesn't get fished enough. We had told Zeke we would pay him to catch some out of there and move the to the beaver pond. So most days he rides his bike down there, and catches fish, puts each one in a bucket when he catches it, and takes it to the beaver pond, about 300 yds away. A trip for each fish! Each day he does this, He will text me and Scott with the species and the number he transported that day. Well, apparently, when he got over there Saturday, she was standing in the road by the gate He called to her and she walked over to him and stood there at the entrance, licking his hands and rubbing her head on him. He knows where we hide the key to the gate and the tack room we built in the new pole barn He keeps his fishing rod in it. So, he lets her in and stays there with her til time to come home! Never said a word about it when they found her, when they put her in the corral, on the 2 hour ride looking for holes in the fence, Scott asked him why, and he said he forgot! LOL We figure, though, he may have been worried Scott would be mad with him.
Like I said, Scott is posting it today at the feed store, and will in the cafe at the sale barn this Saturday. If no one claim her in a week or so, Zeke gets another cow! He has named her "Gail" already. We don't know where he got that from. He says she is sweet, and Gail is sweet. Might be a girl he knew from school or church.
