Well, cypress, up here our health system is run by the Govt. I don't know how similar your Gov't is wanting to be compared to our Canadian system, but here's some food for thought.
I do not need any health insurance and I know that I will be taken care of.
We do have waiting lists.
As you know I was recently diagnosed with cancer. Here's what I have learned so far.
Before it was known that I had cancer, things took some time. Part of that was my fault, and part was the medical system. But as my problem was considered to be non-life threatening(heck, not even really serious) I wasn't concerned about it. From the time I saw my family doc, til I had surgery was less than 6 months, would have been even less, but I was really hard to get ahold of for a couple months.
Once they diagnosed me, it took 2 weeks for me to get in to see the specialist, and this was over New Year's. I saw her on a Monday when she ordered a MRI and CT. I had those done on the Thursday of the same week. At the Monday visit, she told me that if I needed Chemo/radiation it would start the next week and surgery would be about 3 weeks.
They don't mess around with cancer or other serious health issues. Sure, you're going to wait for knee surgery, but if you need open heart surgery they'll get it done.
The only problem I have is that they don't tell you things you need to know. Like, YOU need to make an appointment to see me after the tests, we WON'T call you. I know they are busy, but that would have been nice....
