Another prolapse question

In a bred cow that I just bought(sale barn) I noticed when she is laying down that she has what appears to be a prolapse. It is of good color,meaning no brown or hardness to it(I have felt it). It is baseball to grapefruit size and when she gets up it immediatly goes back in. What problems am I to expect come calving time, witch is any time now? This is new to me as I have never seen a precalving prolapse before.Darn nice looking 4 year old cow too!

Sometimes when they are heavy in calf, you will see it when laying down. If it immediately disapears when she gets up, shouldn't be anything to worry about. Just make note of it.
I have had cows that did that every year when they got close to calving, and as yet (knock on wood) I have yet to have a vaginal prolapse.

I had a cow do this same thing for several years when it got close to calving. It was never a problem until she turned 9. She had a vaginal prolaspe in the fall and now has it held in place with a dart. She will go to town after raising this calf. Some will never get bad like ours did. I wouldn't worry much about it at this point.

Iagree with Jeanne. There are some cows that will do it every year, some will only do it some years. The ones we have had that prolapsed never had a sign of a problem until they popped out and it wouldn;t go back in

With ours we have noticed that it gets worse and worse once they start. They head down the road in the fall. Doesn't matter how nice they are.

It's good that she is close to calving. Bad when the problem shows up a month before, cause it will get worse MUCH WORSE as she gets closer. That small won't be a problem.
TRUST ME, if all works out with her DO NOT keep over.

Now you know why she was at the sale barn. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!!!!!!

If you bought her for killer price you can probably get the same money for her today. If you paid bred cow price then you probably gotta hope you can get this calf weaned and sell her back for killer in the fall.

Some good June calvers sold for just a couple cents above kill at the auction yesterday.
