I am a vet tech student needing to know the average weight of the Angus compared to other cattle. Any suggestions on where I can find cattle weight?

I am a vet tech, depending where you are in the country will often dictate the mature size, Frame and weight of the particular breeds. There is greater diversity within breeds than accross them. Mature Cow weights for Southern regions range from 1000-1600, Mature Bull weights can range from 1400-2800. Factores such a method of development will also affect mature size, such as creep feeding or grass/ high roughage development, and Nutrition management through the first 3 years, cattle start getting mature teeth around 16-18 mo. of age, as this happens they may drop weith or fail to gain unless properly managed, this process continues into the 3rd year, Brahman breeds can take even longer.

Hope this helps

Bailey- In the last year I have seen registered angus cows that weighed around 1000 lbs.- I have also seen some that weighed over 1800 lbs. They're is a huge variation in the angus breed. Some breeders for a while went wild with trying to add frame size and weight. I personally prefer a 1200 lb. cow. or lighter. My aimpoint is a cow that weans off a calf that is above 50% of the cows weight.

You might check out the breed association pages for info on the size of various breeds. Here are a couple of links to the Angus website that might help with Angus weights:
