i can't remember where i heard this but here goes.
A man found a cow dead in the field one day and was puzzled, she had been his son's commercial show heifer so he called the vet. The vet said that she had choked on an apple
the rancher didn't believe him but then he noticed a "damsel in distress" and they went over. The vet whipped out his pocket knife and performed an emergency tracheotomy and what did he find? an apple.
it was an exceptionally dry year and the cows supposedly wanted the moisture in the apples. the rancher had never had problems before but he arranged to have the tree dug up
