I'm building a stationary crowding pen and alleyway and I was wondering what width to make that alley and tub exit. Cows, calves, and bulls will be worked in it. The cows have more rib than most do, so I'm wondering if I might need to make the alleyway wider than the suggested 22" at the base of the alley? What about sloped sides, are they worth it, should I have them? Thanks for any help.

my working/loading chute is 28in wide.if i was building again i might go 30in,but thats me.

28" For vertical sides is pretty much the universal standard.

If possible go for sloped sides, a young calf turning around in a full race is no fun for you or the calf.

For sloping the sides make them about 28" at the top or hip level or something else? About how narrow would you make the base?

It has all the details and dimensions

Using adjustable wrenches in a case such as that one annoys me. Probably way too many rounded off shoulders in my life time.

Using it with the fixed side away from the shoulder being forced is completely outrageous and goes against your earliest childhood learning on the farm when you were taught how to properly apply the wrench. I can't believe they are using that pictorial example for advertisement. It is almost like saying, we are professionals - here let me proved to you what kind of idiots we are.

Here's a video from U tube. Something most folks should have learned on the farm when they were 10 or 11 years old. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xk9g9e ... _lifestyle
