Yep, agreed on all points. I know there are really good sweep systems out there and much better working equipment. With my small herd, it won't ever justify it.
I'm thinking the pap cage could be used to direct cattle from one alley 90 degrees to another. I know that is not their typical use, but I think it would work well. The "Y" they have doesn't look like the gate will open across the cage, just split them one direction to the other. I know rhe pap cage gate will open 90 degrees so you can enter and block any other cattle from coming in behind you.
I think Allen would be a good compromise for me as I have zero working facility now and have to have a chute to at least load cattle onto a trailer.
As far as the sweep, I've worked a lot cattle without one, but with my wife around and she has no experience with working cattle, thought it could be a little safer option with her helping out.
I'm working on a layout of it I'll share later today with a budget. Good snow day project.
